This design is based on the P-51 Mustang (serial number ) “B6-V” named "Isabel III" flown by RNZAF exchange pilot, Fl Lt Jack Cleland – the only fighter pilot from New Zealand to have flown the Americans. Jack Cleland joined the RNZAF in 1941 and initially flew with No. 616 Squadron RAF, operating Spitfires, and participated in missions over Europe and North Africa. In June 1944, Cleland achieved two aerial victories in France before being shot down and rescued. Later, he was attached to the USAAF, flying P-51 Mustangs, including "Isabel III," named after his future wife. Cleland participated in the "Russian Shuttle" missions, escorting B-17s across Europe. He also met future test pilot Chuck Yeager during this period.
